Boise State Bronco fans show their pride all the way from Afghanistan

Nice! Big Grin Be safe, and thank you for your service.  via .

The blue and orange is being proudly displayed overseas by members of Bronco Nation who are also part of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 18 out of Boise.

Joshua Baker wrote to KTVB, and attached several pictures of his shipmates showing their Bronco pride while serving in Afghanistan.

The Seabees are about halfway through a year-long deployment.

Baker wrote, "I'm attaching a few pictures [to the e-mail] of my shipmates and I showing off our pride for Bronco Nation, they're making us proud ... so we'll try to make you proud."

In his e-mail, Baker says he thinks very few people in Boise know there is a Naval Operational Support Center located at Gowen Field  -- but at least now, Bronco Nation knows there is no shortage of loyal BSU fans serving overseas.

Broncos rank #3 in the first BCS results. Now I'm confused...

After all the hubub last week with the pre-BCS poll, supposedly using the same polls and computer algorithms, I was expecting BSU to show this week when the official results were released.

Last week the Broncos were in the polls and moved up to after the sound win against San Jose State and Ohio's loss.  So the stars were aligning pretty well for the big story tonight: Boise State is !  Wait, what?

Oklahoma and Oregon, both teams Boise State has beaten recently, were announced as the and teams in the BCS.  Somebody, somewhere, must not have liked how a non-BCS team could end up at the top of the list Sad

:

The BCS rankings are out and Boise State is sitting in the middle of the top 5.

The Broncos picked up the number 3 spot in the BCS, the highest they have ever placed there.

The BCS standings will eventually determine which teams go to which bowl games.

After a 48-0 blowout against San Jose State, the Broncos took the number two spot in both the Associated Press and Coaches' Polls. It's the highest the Broncos have ever been ranked. The Harris Interactive Poll, which is part of the BCS formula, also placed Boise State in the number 2 spot.

The Ohio State Buckeyes, the front runner in last week's polls, lost to number 18 Wisconsin 31-18. They slipped to number 10 in the Coaches' Poll and number 11 in the AP Poll.

TCU handily beat BYU 31-3 and took the number 4 spot. Oregon had a bye this week, but still managed to clinch the top ranking.

Nevada, who had been steadily working their way up in both polls, has now slipped from the rankings after a 27-21 loss against Hawaii.  The Broncos will face the Nevada Wolf Pack later this year on November 26.

Next up for the Broncos is Louisiana Tech at Bronco Stadium on October 26.

Broncos move up to #2 in the national polls prior to BCS rankings

Fresh from :

The national polls are out and Boise State has jumped up a spot in both polls.

ESPN Outside The Lines panel looks at the pre-BCS Standings

Over the weekend, an ESPN mock BCS .  That didn't sit well with a number of folks.  Watch this video where all-knowing pundits rip the results every which way they can.  No joy for the Broncos here.

Latest ESPN mock poll puts Boise State Broncos at #1! Whaaaaaaaat?

Yesterday I posted the weekly poll results and said the Broncos should be in place in the standings. I was wrong. According to the held by ESPN, Boise State comes out first!  They used the same computer algorithms and polls to conduct the rankings.  Crazymadness!

Six weeks into the college football season and one week before the first Bowl Championship Series standings are released, there are 13 unbeaten teams in all three polls.

So who'd be the BCS' No. 1 if the standings came out today? Would it be consensus No. 1 , the top team in The Associated Press, USA Today and Harris polls? Or maybe fellow unbeaten , ranked No. 2 and earning first-place votes in all three polls?

According to the projection of ESPN's Brad Edwards, it's consensus No. 3 .

If that comes as a surprise, consider this: According to the projections, the No. 1 Buckeyes would place fifth in the BCS standings, percentage points behind . Edwards projects the unbeaten Broncos, the highrest-ranked team from a non BCS conference, as the top team in the standings by a comfortable margin, followed by Oregon. The top two teams in the final regular-season BCS standings play in the BCS National Championship Game.

Fellow BCS buster places third in Edwards' projections, followed by Oklahoma at .8425 and Ohio State at .8421.

Broncos back to #3 (but should be #2)

When Alabama lost over the weekend they dropped down to 8th, leaving Ohio State and Oregon in the top two spots.  My thought is that since BSU has beaten Oregon the last two meetings, the Broncos should really be given the benefit of the doubt and sit squarely in the second seat.  But that's just me, apparently.

Boise State bumped from #3 position in polls

Over the weekend the Broncos toppled New Mexico State 59-0.  You'd think that would be a good thing, particularly since they were only expected to win by 43.5 points before the start of the game.

Combine that with the fact that Oregon's been by the Broncos in the last two seasons, the lackluster beginning in their game against Stanford, and it should've been enough to keep BSU at . I mean, come on, Oregon only won because Stanford burned out too quickly.

Alas, the Broncos were .  There is even talk about TCU jumping over us.  Wait, didn't we ?  Argh.
