The silencing of the ducks

2013-12-20

A Facebook group demanding that A&E reinstate "Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson has become more popular than the A&E's official Facebook page.

As of Friday, "Stand With Phil Robertson" has garnered more than  on Facebook, versus A&E's approximately 588,000.

A&E is walking a thin line with free speech issues.  Read the whole thing at :

I did not start viewing Duck Dynasty until a few months ago. It has since become our favorite show and we can’t get enough of it. Christian values, real people, guns and hunting – what’s not to love? But it would seem that being a Christian and espousing your beliefs in America is now becoming ever more dangerous., ultimately you will care and you will have to take a stand and take sides.

Senate Dems block amendment to restore veteran benefits by closing illegal immigrant welfare loophole

Exerpted from :

The two-year budget deal brokered by Senate Budget Committee Chairwoman Patty Murray and House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, would cut military pensions by $6 billion over ten years, leaving some Senate Republicans scrambling to stop the cuts.

“Removing this unbalanced treatment of our military retirees ought to be one of the key actions we should take before this legislation moves forward. In fact, greater savings than this can be achieved by passing a legislative fix recommended by the Inspector General of the U.S. Treasury that would stop the IRS from improperly providing tax credits to illegal aliens,” Alabama Republican Jeff Sessions said Monday, announcing his co-sponsorship of Mississippi Republican Sen. Roger Wicker’s amendment to restore the military retirement benefits Monday.

Additionally, the Alabama Republican offered his own amendment to restore the cuts by targeting a child tax credit loophole that illegal immigrants have used to unlawfully obtain welfare benefits.

Harry Reid Takes Taxpayer Subsidy: 'My Employer Helps Me Pay for My Health Care'

Seen at :

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D.-Nev.), whose is $193,400 a year, said he has purchased a health care plan through the D.C. Obamacare exchange and that he is accepting the federal subsidy that can run up to $11,378 per year for a member of Congress to purchase a plan on that exchange.

“I’m just like 150 million other people in America,” Reid said. “My employer helps me pay for my health care.”

A provision included in the Affordable Care Act  says: "the only health plans that the Federal Government may make available to Members of Congress and congressional staff with respect to their service as a Member of Congress or congressional staff shall be health plans that are—(I) created under this Act (or an amendment made by this Act); or (II) offered through an Exchange established under this Act (or an amendment made by this Act)."

Colleges can’t ban guns, rules Florida court in major 2nd Amendment victory

Personally, I think that campus carry bans are ridiculous, so I believe this is a step in the right direction.  Read the whole thing at :

Florida Carry Inc. and  Alexandria Lainez vs. the University of North Florida centered around Lainez’s ability to store a gun in her vehicle while attending classes at UNF so she would have available for self-defense while traveling to and from campus.

Lainez is a young mother, Friday said, “and she takes seriously her responsibility to protect herself and her child.”

Lainez, who’s 24 and has had a concealed weapons permit for three years, said she takes firearms safety and training pretty seriously, too. A Jacksonville resident with a half-hour one-way commute to school, she said she’s working to get students at other schools interested in gun training, too.

“I think it’s pretty important to be able to protect myself and my son, especially with that long commute to and from school.”

And making that commute armed means storing the gun on UNF property.

UNF regulations prohibit weapons on campus. According to the student handbook printed in 2011 when the case was filed, expressly threatened that violators could be arrested.

“No college or university has the authority” to make such a regulation, Friday said.

NYC: Surrender your guns immediately!

From :

A 2nd Amendment battle is brewing in New York City over the attempt to confiscate guns, after a resident allegedly received a demanding that he surrender all rifles or shotguns capable of holding over five rounds of ammunition “immediately.”

According to , it is illegal to possess any rifle or shotgun that is capable of holding more than five rounds of ammunition. The notice sent to the resident demanded  immediate compliance.  The notice said in part:

“1. Immediately surrender your Rifle and/or Shotgun to your local police precinct, and notify this office of the invoice number. The firearm may be sold or permanently removed from the City of New York thereafter.

2. Permanently remove your Rifle and/or Shotgun from New York City…

U.N. Maps Show U.S. High in Gun Ownership, Low in Homicides

Interesting maps from :

Maps made by the U.N. office on Drugs and Crime (circa 2007) clearly show that where gun ownership is highest in the world, crime is lowest on a per capita basis.

For example, here is the map for gun ownership:

Notice the high levels of private gun ownership per 100 people in the United States versus the rest of the world.

Now, here is the map for homicides:

Notice the correlation between high gun ownership and lower homicide rates.

This fact will be extremely important to keep in mind in March when the U.N. revisits the , which the Obama administration and other 2nd Amendment opponents will want us to embrace as a solution to the supposed heightened violence in America versus other countries.

As these maps show, "more guns, less crime" is true internationally as well as domestically.

US Army defines Christian ministry as 'domestic hate group'

Two recent articles showing how U.S. Armed Forces are being trained to think of Christian groups as terror organizations.  First, :

Several dozen U.S. Army active duty and reserve troops were told last week that the , a well-respected Christian ministry, should be classified as a domestic hate group because the group advocates for traditional family values.

The briefing was held at Camp Shelby in Mississippi and listed the AFA alongside domestic hate groups like the Ku Klux Klan, Neo-Nazis, the Black Panthers and the Nation of Islam.

A soldier who attended the briefing contacted me and sent me a photograph of a slide show presentation that listed AFA as a domestic hate group. Under the AFA headline is a photograph of Westboro Baptist Church preacher Fred Phelps holding a sign reading “No special law for f***.”

American Family Association has absolutely no affiliation with the controversial church group known for picketing the funerals of American servicemembers.
